Dear Friend of ASA,

I hope this message finds you and your family safe and healthy during this unprecedented global event. The last month has been a wild ride for everyone, and ASA is no exception. I wanted to share an update on the current status as well as our plans for the future.

We closed our doors on March 12th for the winter season. We were heartbroken to cancel our local end of season celebration- the San Juan ShredFest as well as close our doors to locals and visitors. In all, we canceled 172 lessons for the remainder of the winter season. The health and safety of our community always have and will continue to be our top priorities. At this point, programs are canceled through the middle of May; however, that plan is subject to change. Our team is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to communicate as we learn more about what our summer plans might include.

We are very thankfufor all of our past support from individuals, businesses, and our community at large. As a result of the incredible generosity of our community, ASA has been able to plan for unexpected challenges. An operating reserve fund created by the organization in recent years will keep us moving forward and able to weather this tumultuous time.

We are so grateful for our current stability. Still, we know that ASA will need to endure serious financial impacts as we face uncertainty around program revenues, business sponsorship, grants, individual donations, and special events. Thus far, we have sustained a loss of 26% of our annual program revenue in canceled programming, and we know this is likely just the beginning.

While we work through these upcoming challenges, your support is more critical than ever. Here are some ways you can support ASA today:

  • Make a one-time gift. As part of the CARES relief act, individual donors are eligible for a deduction of up to $300, even if you don’t typically itemize.
  • Sign up to become a monthly donor for as little as $5/month! Every bit helps and provides consistent support to our organization all year long.
  • Share a story about how ASA has affected your life either on our social media channels or by sending me an email. These stories help keep us moving the mission forward!

During this time, I’m reminded of the core values of our organization, the impact of ASA programming, and our motto- “exploring possibilities.” Although this time is very uncertain for all of us, please know that our team is hard at work (remotely!) to identify ways that we can continue to stay connected.

Please reach out, join one of our upcoming online social gatherings (stay tuned!), and share how you #keepexploringpossibilities on our social media. Have an idea for ways we can stay connected? Please give me a call or send me an email.  Our community is at the core of everything we do, and we want to know how you are doing and how we can help.

The ASA community is strong. Together, we will get through this! I promise we will be ready with hugs, high fives, and lots of adventures as soon as it is safe to do so.

Keep Exploring Possibilities,
